Observe a great Bordeaux wine being created during your stay at the Chateau Pape Clément, one of the most prestigious vineyards in the world … Wine lover Fabrice Perniscot remembers his exceptional two-day stay: ‘The delightful feeling of being the guests of a mansion where they’re waiting to welcome you.’ ‘The chateau is only 15 minutes from the centre of Bordeaux,’ he explains. ‘We were met by the butler who gave us the “keys” to our rooms and he was available, when it suited us, to take us on a tour of the property.’
‘The delightful feeling of being the guests of a mansion where they’re waiting to welcome you.’
The couple took a walk through the wine cellars and tasted several vintages of Chateau Pape Clément, one of the oldest great wines of Bordeaux, which had its first grape harvest in 1252 and was once the property of Pope Clément V. While wandering through the many rooms of the chateau, Fabrice Perniscot was able to share this history as he discovered the relics of the popes: the chalices, ciboriums, registers ...
‘We felt like Mr Magrez had had us to stay in his own residence.’
After a meal served in the dining room and coffee served in the adjoining sitting room, you return to one of the five suites, guided by candle light. There are views over the vines where, depending on the season, you can see men and horses working. The decor is intimate, with photos and etchings on the walls depicting the history of the chateau and precious personal objects on the mantlepiece. There is also an art deco bathroom. ‘We felt like Mr Magrez had had us to stay in his own residence.’
A gifted amateur wine connoisseur, Fabrice Perniscot made the most of the tastings conducted by a wine expert. But each person can tailor their visit to suit their tastes and knowledge, whether they be historical or technical. The wine-tasting courses can be enjoyed all year round, seven days a week, at this prestigious Bordeaux chateau. Whether you are a novice, connoisseur or professional taster, Luxury Wine Experience offers everyone a special experience tailored to their personal requirements.
