A spirituous retreat with the Frères Moine

In Chassors, not far from Jarnac-Charente, the Frères Moine estate is the winner of the Wine Tourism Trophies Golden Prize 2020 in the “Creative and Original Activities” category.

Yann and Gabriel Moine (Monk, in English), are two unassuming brothers committed to constantly renewing their 40-acre vineyard and maximising production. In their own words, they are driven by the desire to produce “subtle alcoholic beverages that share knowledge and bring people together. ”

Their aim? To make what is invisible, visible. To achieve this they take their visitors on a journey through the world of cognac, introducing them to the different professionals involved: stave cutter, cooper and distiller.

In addition to their cognacs, the two brothers also showcase their different Pineaux des Charentes, especially their latest creation: a pineau made using a carbonic maceration technique that produces incredible aromas. They also produce Vins de Pays, Gamay, Chenin and Colombard.

Château Lamothe-Bergeron

Winner of the Wine Tourism Trophies Golden Prize 2020 in the “Visit a Vineyard with the Family” category, Château Lamothe-Bergeron is experiencing its very own renaissance.

Given its location and beauty, the château was destined to welcome visitors. Which is why its general manager, Laurent Méry, was quick to restore and open it as a wine tourism venue.

The château has plenty to offer its guests: stunning architecture, an original tour route with light effects in the cellar, and very affordable wines, including the 2015 vintage, the embodiment of tension and freshness.

A new feature for 2020 is the Sommelier’s visit, which includes the tour, a wine tasting with an “airing” workshop along with a food and wine pairing. Visitors can also explore the château's grounds, enjoy an open-air lunch or an evening meal prepared by the chef.

Quai Cyrano is a shop window for the region’s wines and winner of the Wine Tourism Trophies Golden Prize 2020 in the “Promotion of a terroir” category.

The fully restored building houses not only the Maison des Vins, with its extensive sun terrace offering a 180 degree view of the Dordogne river, but also the tourist office with access to the cloister's courtyard, the setting for jazz concerts every Wednesday during the summer months.

From June to September, winemakers head to the wine bar to showcase their skills and creations; an opportunity to discover cuvées from the Bergerac appellation’s 130 wine estates and try some of the local produce.

Farmer's markets, concerts and pop-up bars on the belvedere above the river bring life to the port, just opposite, where you can also take in a magnificent sunset.

In the middle of August, Rosette Night is an unmissable evening dedicated to sweet wines!
